North Pole expedition travel
is for the traveler who is looking for an adventure and a challenge. We
offer several programs that will fit almost anyone with an adventurous
spirit. All expeditions are scheduled for late March through mid-April,
when the polar climate is at its best, with 24 hours of daylight and
temperatures ranging from –38° C to –20° C. Expeditions begin with a flight
from Spitsbergen, Norway to the Barneo Ice Camp situated on the polar
ice cap, approximately 89° degrees latitude. Some chose a one to three
day experience that includes time at the base camp and a helicopter
flight to the geographic North Pole. While at Barneo, visitors will have
the opportunity to witness the rich activity of the camp, often meeting
skydivers, scuba divers or Arctic explorers from around the world. Well-trained skiers who are up to the challenge of the polar wilderness,
may choose a skiing expedition to the geographical North Pole that
involves pulling a pulk with all provisions, pushing through pressure
ridges, crossing frozen leads and camping in tents. Starting points vary
with the length of the ski program, weather and ice conditions. For
skiers who prefer a less rigorous experience, we have programs that are
near base camp during the day, with accommodations at
night in heated tents. For all who reach the Pole, there is a
celebration and an opportunity to contemplate the exploits of those who
succeeded or failed in the past and present to reach the place on Earth
where all meridians unite. |
