The North Pole
expedition was arranged by Robert Russell
and his very charming
wife Ari. I went
from New York to London to Oslo,
Norway to Longyearbyen in Svalbard.
We stayed at SAS Radisson - northernmost
hotel in the world. On 14th we arrived at
Camp Borneo after
about 3 to 4 hours
flight time. From there we took a
Russian MI-8
helicopter to the
geographic North Pole.
We had Champaign,
took all the pictures we could, stayed for
about three very sunny & beautiful hours at
the top of the world.
Our plane was an Antonov
74 operated by very friendly
Russians. Robert Russell
and his wife, Ari, are
great organizers.
From Longyearbyen we had
a snowmobile ride to a glacier in
good, bad and snow-stormed weather. It was
really exhilarating.

Robert,
Now that we have returned and I’ve had an
opportunity to reflect on the experience, I
wanted to drop you a note of thanks. I’ve
traveled extensively to some very remote
places (Antarctica, Irian Jaya etc.) and the
North Pole experience ranks at the top of
the list. The experience was made better
because of the high degree of capable
organization and the seamlessness of the
overall experience. A lot of work went into
making it this way and I’m grateful for that
effort.
